AUTOMATIC WATCHES

Automatic watches, also known as selfwinding watches, are watches that wind themselves with the movement of your arm. These watches are more complicated watches and more time consuming to repair, but for the most part are a beautiful work of craftmanship. The half mooned plate that is gold in this picture, is the oscillating weight that falls to the lower point everytime the watch is moved. An automatic watch takes 8 hours of movement to keep the watch wound properly. So, if your activity level should change, like you get a desk job, retirement, or you become a couch potato, your watch could act as if there is something wrong. When really all you need is either more activity or it's time to get a quartz watch.
